The SafeSearch filter hides adult content in your Qwant search results. Here’s how to configure it according to your needs.
Three Levels of SafeSearch
Qwant offers three filtering levels:
- Strict: adult content is systematically hidden. The filter is applied aggressively, and some legitimate results may occasionally be filtered out.
- Moderate: the default balance. Most explicit content is hidden, but borderline results may pass through.
- None: no filtering. All results matching your query are displayed.
Configuring SafeSearch
- Go to qwant.com.
- Click on the settings icon at the top right.
- In the Search or Privacy section, find the SafeSearch option.
- Select the level that suits you.
Why Is SafeSearch Enabled by Default?
SafeSearch is enabled in Moderate mode by default for a simple reason: most users do not want explicit content to appear unintentionally, especially when searching for ambiguous terms.
You remain free to disable the filter if your needs justify it.
SafeSearch and Children
SafeSearch is not parental control. It only blocks explicit content in Qwant results. For child-appropriate protection, we recommend:
- Using dedicated parental control software on the child’s device.
- A configuration at your router or your internet service provider level.
- A conversation with the child about Internet usage.
If You Find Inappropriate Content Despite SafeSearch
No filter is perfect. If you find adult content displayed despite SafeSearch being set to Strict or Moderate, you can report it to us using the options next to the result. Your report helps us improve filtering.
Filtering in the Images and Videos Pane
SafeSearch is especially important in the Images and Videos panes, where explicit content is most likely to appear accidentally on ambiguous queries.
The SafeSearch setting is global and applies to all panes.
